Jules* Elting

JULES* ELTING is a trans nonbinary actor based in Berlin. Their pronouns are (they/them) in English and (elu/delu) in Portuguese. Born in Hamburg, Jules* studied contemporary dance at the Martha Graham School in New York City and acting at the Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy University of Music and Theatre in Leipzig. After a classical theatre career in German state theatres, they spent ten years working in Brazil. Jules* artistic work moves between stage, film, and television - mostly in an international context.

In cinema, Jules* has appeared in over twenty international feature films, awarded at festivals worldwide. Highlights include The Ornithologist (Silver Leopard, Locarno), King Car (IFFR Rotterdam), Melk (Venice International Film Festival), and Siri Hustvedt - Dance Around the Self (Berlinale). On German television, they were most recently seen in Tatort and the queer series Brüt. The Swiss evening-length solo performance Roaring, about a historical trans figure and performed in both German and English, was nominated for the Swiss Theatre Encounter.

Jules* was selected as a Berlinale Talent in 2019 and hosted the 35th Teddy Awards at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2021. They were a company member of Teatro Oficina in São Paulo for ten years. In summer 2025, Jules* directed and produced their first feature film - a cinema documentary about trans activists in the legacy of Marsha P. Johnson in New York City.

For their advocacy for trans inclusion and structural change in the film industry, Jules* ranked No. 5 on the 2022 Proud At Work list of Germany’s top media, arts, and culture professionals. In 2024, the Brazilian Film Critics Association nominated Jules* as Newcomer of the Year.

Jules* plays trans and cis roles and works professionally in German, Portuguese, and English.
